FourthWrite advisors are available for hourly phone or online video consultation for clients who would like guidance in their writing process. Consultations usually focus on clients’ admissions positioning and essay topics, and can also cover any other subject related to admissions writing.
CV Revision
CV Revision is an easy way for clients to improve what can be a particularly challenging aspect of admissions writing. FourthWrite advisors have experience strengthening thousands of CVs, and this expertise can significantly help clients’ CVs make a good impression on readers who will spend very little time assessing the document.
Polished Revision
This editing service is best for clients who feel confident that they have a near-complete draft of an essay, and would like to have it proofread and polished. Polished Revision fixes grammar and punctuation errors, improves an essay’s flow, and provides some suggestions about content, organization, and tone.
Formative Revision
Formative Revision is a two-round editing service for clients who would like help solidifying their essay content and structure before having a thorough proofreading. Clients submit an initial draft and receive formative feedback about strengths, weaknesses, and ways to improve the approach and organization of their essay. Clients then revise their essay accordingly and resubmit it to be reviewed again, this time for grammar, punctuation, and flow. This two-round revision provides clients with support from big picture content issues down to the smallest syntax details.
Guided Writing Support
Guided Writing Support is recommended for clients who would like support through all the stages of their writing process, starting with brainstorming ideas about how they will approach their essay. This service begins with an hour-long consultation where the client and a FourthWrite advisor work together to brainstorm and create an outline based upon the client’s CV and a pre-consultation questionnaire. The client then composes a draft based on that outline and submits it for up to two rounds of revisions. These revisions focus on fixing issues of grammar, punctuation, and flow, while also providing suggestions about content, structure, and style.
Comprehensive Writing Support
Comprehensive Writing Support is for clients who would like full-service support for all of their admissions writing. This is an open-ended service that is tailored to the specific type of school clients are applying to (Undergraduate, Business School, Medical School, or Graduate School). Through initial consultations about how to approach admissions writing, regular check-ins, and multiple rounds of revision, FourthWrite advisors guide clients through the writing process. Clients have full access to the time and expertise of FourthWrite advisors over the entire course of their admissions cycle, which results in both strong admissions writing and peace of mind.

If you do not yet have a draft of your essay and would like help brainstorming and outlining its content and structure, we recommend starting with a Consultation. Consultations can be done a la carte or as part of a larger package: Guided Writing Support starts with a consultation and is followed by two rounds of revision for a single essay, and Comprehensive Writing Support and Medical Comprehensive Writing Support allows clients to work with a FourthWrite advisor through all of their writing for multiple school applications.
I have a draft
If you already have a draft that you want revised, your best options are Polished Revision and Formative Revision. Polished Revision is a one-round service that is geared towards clients who are overall happy with the content and structure of their essay, and want a thorough proofreading for grammar, word choice, and flow. Formative Revision is a two-round service in which a FourthWrite advisor first reviews a draft essay for content and structure issues, returns the draft to the client to revise their essay accordingly, and then does a second round of revisions to polish the essay.
Can I contact my advisor after they have returned my revised essay?
Yes, FourthWrite advisors often exchange a couple emails with clients after returning their revised essay to answer follow-up questions and address any lingering issues.
What will we talk about in our consultation?
Consultation agendas vary depending on the needs of the individual client, but they we generally focus on developing a client’s admissions positioning and brainstorming the best approach to the essay(s) at hand. In most cases, clients walk away from the initial consultation with an outline of their essay that they can use as a guide when they draft their essay.
I have to write a bunch of essays for multiple school applications; can FourthWrite help me with all of them?
Absolutely. If you are applying to multiple programs with different writing requirements, we generally recommend that you start with a consultation with a FourthWrite advisor in order to map out the best course of action. The Comprehensive Writing Support Service is often the best option in these cases, and we can better determine that once we know the scope and sequence of a client’s applications.
